Protective Process: How Your Alarm Company Keeps You Safe

Last updated 9 months ago

Have you ever wondered how your home alarm system works? There are a number of different types of home security systems for you to choose from. Among the most popular are externally monitored systems. These home alarm systems connect your home and a central station where employees monitor the security systems in the network. Local systems don’t contact a central station, but produce loud alarm tones when the circuit is tripped. Here is some basic about both types of security systems.

Local Alarm Systems

Circuit systems are generally put on windows and doors and, when activated, are tripped if a window or door is opened. Most circuit systems are also connected to a siren, which alerts you and your neighbors that your home security has been breached.

Motion detectors monitor the area in which they are installed for infrared light, like the heat which human bodies emit. When they notice an irregularity in temperature, the motion detectors are triggered.

Monitoring:

When a centrally-monitored alarm is set off, it sends a signal telling the control center that your home has been invaded. The alarm company will call the number you have on file to request the password. If no one answers or an incorrect code is given they alert the police, fire department, or other authority and alert them that an alarm has sounded. Triggering the alarm system will also trigger a siren as a first deterrent, which often prevents further intrusion. The home alarm monitoring company will provide further assistance as necessary.
